The Milwaukee Road's Gleason Line - Now On Sale

Author Tom Burg has finished a book on how Gleason became a hub for the logging industry in the first half of the 20th century - supplying trainloads of logs, sometimes numerous trains daily, to the main line for transport to the sawmills of Merrill and Wausau. Two different railroads ran three of the four directions from there, and Gleason had servicing facilities for the locomotives based there, including the Milwaukee's Shay Locomotive.

Few signs of this hardworking rail line can be found today, so before its history vanishes entirely, here is the story of the Milwaukee Road's Gleason Line.

Author Tom Burg will be at the Merrill Historical Society on Thursday, August 27th from 11 to 12 and Skaar's in Gleason on Friday, August 28th from 9 to 11 to chat about Gleason and his new book. On sale at the Merrill Historical Society, Skaar's in Gleason, and Janke Book Store in Wausau.
